In his new book, One Day in History: September 11, 2001, author James L. Swanson tells the gripping story of that fateful day. Swanson draws on eyewitness accounts, interviews with survivors, and official reports to recreate the events of 9/11 in vivid detail.

The book begins with the hijacking of American Airlines Flight 11, which crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. In the minutes that followed, two more planes were hijacked and crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Swanson follows the stories of the victims, the survivors, and the first responders who rushed to the scene of the attacks. He describes the chaos and confusion of that day, as well as the courage and compassion of those who helped others.

One Day in History is a powerful and moving account of one of the most important events in American history. Swanson's book is a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, and it is a tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11.

Excerpt from One Day in History: September 11, 2001

"At 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The impact was so powerful that it sent shock waves through the entire building. People in the upper floors felt the building sway, and some were knocked off their feet.

"I was in my office on the 78th floor when the plane hit," said one survivor. "I heard a loud boom, and then the building started to shake. I looked out the window and saw a huge hole in the side of the tower. I knew right away that it was a terrorist attack."

"The impact of the plane also caused a massive fire in the North Tower. The fire quickly spread to the upper floors, and soon the entire building was engulfed in flames.

"People began to flee the building, but many were trapped. Some people jumped from the windows in a desperate attempt to escape the flames.

"At 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center. The impact of the plane caused another massive fire, and soon the South Tower was also engulfed in flames.

"The attacks on the World Trade Center were just the beginning of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. At 9:37 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. The impact of the plane caused a massive explosion, and the Pentagon was heavily damaged.

"At 10:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The passengers and crew of Flight 93 had fought back against the hijackers, and they prevented the plane from reaching its intended target, which was believed to be the White House or the Capitol Building.

"The 9/11 terrorist attacks were a tragedy that killed nearly 3,000 people. The attacks had a profound impact on the United States and the world, and they led to the War on Terror."

One Day in History: September 11, 2001 is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the full impact of 9/11. Swanson's book is a gripping account of that fateful day, and it is a tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11.
